Thin eyebrows were super popular back in the 90s, thanks, in part, to the gals of Friends, but today, both women and men want to have fuller, thicker brows — and with good reason. Fuller brows enhance the facial features, adding symmetry and balance to the face. Did you know that thinner brows can actually make a person look older than they are? What’s more, when you have beautiful, natural-looking brows, you can feel more confident in knowing you are putting your best face forward in all your endeavors.

What Are Ombré Brows?

You may be more familiar with microblading, a semi-permanent eyebrow application where pigment is pressed into the skin along the ridge of the eyebrow line. Microblading is applied in feather-like strokes and is meant to resemble the tiny hair strands that make up an eyebrow. Microblading delivers a defined look and lasts anywhere from Ombré eyebrows, on the other hand, offers a softer defined brow that resembles a fresh powder application, which is why this procedure is often referred to as “powder brows.”

What Do Ombré Brows Look Like?

By carefully applying the natural-looking pigment, your permanent makeup artist creates the illusion of fading, which is where the technique gets its name. Ombré eyebrows start out lighter at the inner portion of the brow and become gradually darker towards the tail ends. The technique creates a more solid-looking brow that is bolder and more defined when compared to microblading, yet still soft and beautiful to reflect a natural-looking brow.

What To Expect

During your consultation, you and your permanent makeup artist will choose a color and shape that best enhances your natural beauty. You will have a series of two applications: the initial pigment insertion and touch-up application about six-to-eight weeks later. One question we always hear is, “Does an ombré eyebrow application hurt?” Because we are using a sterile tool to insert the pigment into the skin, some discomfort should be expected, although we will do everything we can to make your procedure as pain-free as possible by applying a safe topical anesthetic cream to dull the pain. Keep in mind that pain varies from person-to-person.

How Long Do Ombré Brows Last?

Ombré eyebrows can last anywhere between one-to-three years. If you want to enhance the look and longevity of your application, it is important to avoid:

  • Sun exposure
  • Tanning beds
  • Over-exfoliating
  • Improper after care immediately following your applications
